ROPE MISTAKEN FOR A SNAKE April 13, 2008

In our lives we can experience fear and worries a lot of times for various reasons. What is the reason for this?

Here is a beautiful explanation in Shankara’s  “Vivekachudamani”

“110. Maya can be destroyed by the realization of the pure Brahman, the one without a second, just as the mistaken idea of a snake is removed by the discrimination of the rope. She has her Gunas as Rajas, Tamas and Sattva, named after their respective functions.

138. One who is overpowered by ignorance mistakes a thing for what it is not; It is the absence of discrimination that causes one to mistake a snake for a rope, and great dangers overtake him when he seizes it through that wrong notion. Hence, listen, my friend, it is the mistaking of transitory things as real that constitutes bondage.”

As you can see the Maya( Illusion, Fear ) is coming to us because of lack of discrimination and  clarity.

Here is a gorgeous extract from Sri Guru Granth Sahib:

“In the darkness of Maya, I mistook the rope for the snake, but that is over, and now I dwell in the Eternal Home of the Lord (sggs 332). Like the story of the rope mistaken for a snake, the mystery has now been explained to me. Like the many bracelets, which I mistakenly thought were gold; now, I do not say what I said then (sggs 658).”

It is very easy to remove the darkness of Maya within us. We need to bring the Light in ourselves by awakening of Kundalini.

Antari giyan na aayio mirtak hai sansaar: Those within whom the Knowledge is not awakened are like dead bodies in the world (sggs 88).”

Aatam cheenai su tatt beechaarae: One who understands his own Soul, contemplates the essence of Reality (sggs 224).

Chet suchet chit hoyi rahu tayu lai pargaas ujaaraa: When you are conscious in your Consciousness, you will be enlightened and illuminated (sggs 339).

Iyu kahe Nanak man tu jot saroop hai apnaa mool pashaan: Thus says Nanak: O my mind, you are That — the true image of the Divine Light — know your Reality (sggs 441).

MOOLADHARA CHAKRA April 12, 2008

The first center is called the Mooladhara center. It has four petals (sub-plexuses), is placed below the triangular bone, and is responsible on the physical level of the manifestation of the pelvic plexus which looks after all our excretion, inclusive of sex activity.

When the Kundalini rises, then this center becomes inactive in the excretion functions but active in the support of the rising of the Kundalini. Though the Kundalini has to rise through six centers, the first center of Mooladhara protects the purity of chastity of the Kundalini at the time of its awakening” - H.H. Shri Mataji Nirmala Devi

ADAM, EVE AND TREE OF LIFE April 7, 2008

The traditional interpretation of the story of Adam and Eve is that they disobeyed God by eating the forbidden apple, which is the origin of Original Sin.

We need to remember that there were two trees in the Garden:

“In the middle of the garden were the tree of life and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.”…

And the LORD God commanded the man, “You are free to eat from any tree in the garden;  but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat of it you will surely die.”

Again the big question is why Adam and Eve choose the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. I would choose the tree of life.

Adam and Eve ate the apple, and when God realized this, He said:

“The man has now become like one of us, knowing good and evil. He must not be allowed to reach out his hand and take also from the tree of life and eat, and live forever.”

It is obvious that after eating from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil Adam and Eve realize that they are naked. This is definitely one step forward in their evolution. Acquiring the knowledge of good and evil means evolving from animals to human beings. Becoming human was both a blessing and a curse. There was much to be gained from it–as the Serpent said, “your eyes shall be opened”.

How does the story of Adam and Eve ends? Are we still evolving? What is the next step?

Remember what GOD said: “He must not be allowed to reach out his hand and take also from the tree of life and eat, and live forever.”

Can we try to taste THE TREE OF LIFE and live forever as promised by Christ?

WHAT IS THE REASON FOR HAVING DREAMS? March 29, 2008

Public Lecture (New Delhi ‘83)

Audience member from public lecture: What is the reason for having dreams?
Shri Mataji: The reason for dreams is that when you are sleeping your attention moves either to the supraconscious side or to the subconscious side, your attention starts moving. And then you start seeing things which are connected with your subconscious or your collective subconscious and all this thing. And you may go onto supraconscious side where you see your future and all this thing. But the reason why you get dreams actually is that the unconscious, which is within you, or you can say the Kundalini or your Atma is trying to guide you to the right path. And how does it guide you to the right path? Is through dreams. But these are misunderstood.
How do you understand these dreams because you are so confused? First you go deep into yourself and you touch the unconscious - sushupti stithi. But from there you come out. And then when you are coming out, you touch your subconscious or maybe supraconscious. So whatever anubhuti you had, or whatever experience you had, of the depths of the sushupti gets confused and you don’t know what you dreamt, and you don’t understand and you forget it. But those who are realized souls go to their sushupti and see exactly what they have to know.
Like many people in Bombay when I came, they didn’t know I was coming but they were at the airport because they got the dream. So at this sushupti level, at the deep level you get the communication with God if you know how to go in and come out fully aware. But if you get confused with supraconscious or subconscious areas or if you start, your chitta i (Attention) is not so clear-cut, then there can be a big confusion.

YOU MUST BE BORN AGAIN March 24, 2008

lotusflower.jpg

John 3:3
In reply Jesus declared, “I tell you the truth, no one can see the kingdom of God unless he is born again.”
John 3:2-4 (in Context) John 3 (Whole Chapter)
John 3:7
You should not be surprised at my saying, ‘You must be born again.’
John 3:6-8 (in Context) John 3 (Whole Chapter)
Do you think that born again is certificate like in the school or should be something more? We can say thousands times “I am born again” but still is nothing more than a lip service.
Christ clearly specified how this can happen.
“5Jesus answered, “I tell you the truth, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless he is born of water and the Spirit. 6Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit gives birth to spirit. 7You should not be surprised at my saying, ‘You must be born again.’ 8The wind blows wherever it pleases. You hear its sound, but you cannot tell where it comes from or where it is going. So it is with everyone born of the Spirit.”
This happening should take place inside within us not outside. Where is the location of the Spirit and the Water within us?

HOW I FEEL AFTER THE KUNDALINI IS RAISED? March 21, 2008

child.jpg

After the initial raising of the Kundalini (self realization) you may feel many things.
You will likely feel some tingling or numbness on the fingertips.  As the Kundalini rises
it informs you through your central nervous system if there are any blockages on
your chakras.  See the section on Chakras to find out more information on the
chakras.

It can be felt as a cool breeze in the palm of your hands or you may feel a slight
coolness at the top of your head.  It also starts a flow of divine grace inside us.  For
the first time we can feel the presence of the divine. It purifies the attention of the
person and establishes this awareness in the state of meditation.  You may also feel
some heat - this is the Kundalini cleaning some obstructions on your chakras - it is
not painful at all.
The Kundalini knows everything about you.  Whatever chakra she touches, she
knows what is wrong with that chakra before hand and she adjusts herself fully so
that you do not get a problem by the awakening.  If any chakra is constricted, she
waits and goes on slowly opening that chakra.

CHILDREN SUFFER FROM STRESSED PARENTS March 20, 2008

sick.jpg

Children whose parents and families are under ongoing stress have more fevers with illness than other children. Published this month in the Archives of Pediatric and Adolescent Medicine, the study also shows the unanticipated conclusion that children’s natural killer cell function, part of the body’s innate immune system, increases under chronic stress, unlike adults, whose function is decreased.

University of Rochester Medical Center - http://www.urmc.rochester.edu/pr/news/story.cfm?id=1396

The word ‘Stress’ has a lot of reasons behind it. When a person says he is stressed out, he means he cannot keep a proper state of mind, rather it is difficult to keep a balanced state of mind.
So, whenever I feel stressed out after the day’s work, I come home and sit down for meditation. After meditation, I feel very very fresh and feel all the strain of the whole day go way, so much that I feel am ready for any other task now
Our subtle system is closely linked to our nervous system, which it keeps in balance. Indeed, we can detect the subtle system functioning within us due to the presence of a cool breeze, a prickling sensation or sometimes heat on particular parts of our hands or on top of our heads. Only the Kundalini has the power to awaken the subtle system, which can actually be felt on your hands.
Thus, once this mechanism is awakened and gradually mastered by practicing Sahaja Yoga, it becomes a marvelous instrument in developing the personality which we so look forward to becoming, and thus handle stress and become a very balanced person.

HOW KUNDALINI WORKS? March 19, 2008

water.jpg

The Kundalini is like a tape recorder.  It knows everything about you - all your problems, all your thoughts.  It’s been with you for all your previous lives and has an unconditional love for you.  It wants to help you connect with the all pervading power of God’s love.  This is possible only through Kundalini awakening (self-realization). The Kundalini can be understood as consisting of many strands of energy.

The more we meditate, the more strands rise and the stronger our chakras and central channel becomes.  When we meditate and become thoughtless our Kundalini rises and begins to clear any blockages we may have on our chakras.  The Kundalini knows exactly which of our chakras are blocked and informs us through our central nervous system on our fingertips which of our chakras are blocked.
Each of our fingertips corresponds to a particular chakra.  If any chakra is blocked, the Kundalini works on that chakra until the chakra is cleaned and then rises until it reaches and crosses through the Sahasrara.  This is when yoga is achieved and we unite with the all pervading power of God’s love.

KUNDALINI March 18, 2008

kundalini-precolombiana-indigena.jpg

‘Kundalini is one of the greatest energies. The whole body of the seeker starts glowing because of the rising of the Kundalini. Because of that, unwanted impurities in the body disappear. The body of the seeker suddenly looks very proportionate and the eyes look bright and attractive and the eyeballs glow.’
- (Gyaneshwari, Chapter VI).

For the first time I had heard about Kundalini 25 years ago. According this book this power is residing in every one of us in dormant state. There were no any instructions how to awake this Kundalini power.
At May 25, 1990 I was invited to Sahaja yoga program.  Sahaja Yoga is a unique method of meditation based on an awakening that can occur within each human being. Through this process an inner transformation takes place by which one becomes moral, united, integrated and balanced. One can actually feel the all pervading divine power as a cool breeze, as described in all religions and spiritual traditions of the world.
Kundalini is the power of pure desire within us, a motherly and soothing spiritual energy which lies dormant at the base of the spine in the sacrum bone.  Kundalini is a Sanskrit word meaning coiled up likes a snake.  The Kundalini is a primordial energy - a living energy that is completely pure and immaculate.  It cannot be stained or tarnished.  This Kundalini energy lies dormant until it is awakened by a process called Self-Realization.  Self Realization is the awakening of the Kundalini through the central channel, piercing through the six chakras above the sacrum bone and emerging at the top of the head (fontanel bone area) as a gentle “fountain of coolness”.
The Kundalini gives us the connection to the divine all pervading power.  She is the spiritual mother of each and every one of us, who nurtures and energizes our spirit.  She has always been with us and gives us the capacity for love and compassion.  She emits the impulse to search for something higher, for spiritual seeking.  She generates the power of pure desire - the power to evolve and to become one with the spirit
When the Kundalini rises, she awakens the spirit which is located in the heart.  When she touches the center of the Sahasrara Chakra we are bathed in vibrations.  Then the awakened Kundalini helps establish the sovereignty of the spirit over the different aspects of the subtle being and of our life.  As you experience the Kundalini raising it will point out the problems of your chakras and you feel it on your central nervous system as a tingling on your fingertips.  The Kundalini nourishes any of our chakras which are out of balance and corrects them.  When the chakras are clear enough for the Kundalini to rise without obstacles, we can feel the peace and enjoy thoughtless awareness.

The essence of YOGA March 13, 2008

roden.jpg

“Through study let one practise yoga. Through yoga let one concentrate on study. By perfection in study and in yoga the Supreme Soul shines forth clearly.” (Vyasa)

The most famous book as far as yoga is concern is Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras.
Patanjali set down his most famous words: “yogash chitta-vritti-nirodhah, “Yoga is the restraint of the modifications of the mind.”
For Patanjali, all these identifiable elements–thoughts, feelings, intentions, motives and desires (conscious and unconscious)–are chittavrittis, mental modifications which must be seen as hindrances to contemplative calm.
Can we say that we are in full control of our thoughts?
NO!
WHY?
Does it mean that our mind it is out of control?
The easiest way so far to control our thoughts is awakening of Kundalini.
When the Kundalini rises, these thoughts elongate. There is a space, very small, between the thoughts (vilamba), which spread out, and a state of complete silence is created. Then, we are in the present, but without thoughts, without any worry, without any anger and we stand in the present, which is the reality, and the past is no more and the future does not exist.
